A container for storing and transporting elongated objects, such as smoker's articles, or other small objects, which container has a container lid or closure and a container receptacle. The container lid is mounted on the receptacle for pivoting movement relative thereto and is openable to provide full access to the interior of the container and the object stored therein, and is closable to prevent access thereto. The container incorporates a child-resistant opening mechanism, and a seal which cooperates between the container lid and the receptacle in the closed position of the container lid to prevent odors from escaping the container interior, to preserve freshness of objects stored in the interior of the container and/or to seal the container interior from moisture or other contaminants.
