One apparatus includes a processor and a transceiver that communicates with a mobile communication network supporting a plurality of network slices. The processor detects an application of the apparatus that requests to send a data packet and selects a network slice selection indicator associated with the detected application of the apparatus. The processor controls the transceiver to transmit the data packet via a network connection to a network slice in the mobile communication network, the network connection being associated with the selected network slice selection indicator.
