A device for operating a parking facility, including a database in which one or multiple vehicle property/properties is/are stored for different vehicle types, and a processor which is designed to ascertain a type of a vehicle based on the recorded image of the vehicle and to read the vehicle property/properties corresponding to the ascertained vehicle type out of the database, the processor being further designed to ascertain a parking position for the vehicle in the parking facility based on the one or multiple read-out vehicle property/properties.
