A glass article having a not-level structure of high durability and excelling in functions, such as water repellency and hydrophilicity. There is provided a functional glass article comprising a glass article; a metal oxide particle assemblage of 10 to 400 nm average height superimposed on a surface of the glass article so as to cover 50 to 90% of the surface; and at least one functional coating selected from among a water repellent coating, a hydrophilic coating and an antifouling coating, which functional coating is disposed so as to cover the metal oxide particle assemblage and to be in contact with the glass article surface. The metal oxide particle assemblage is, for example, a tin oxide particle assemblage formed by a chemical vapor phase growing method.
