An angular velocity sensor detects the angular velocity of the movement of an imaging device. On the basis of the angular velocity at a plurality of different times, an operation determination unit determines a user operation state identified by the change over time in the angular velocity. A zoom control unit controls zoom on the basis of the user operation state. By using the angular velocity at a plurality of times in this manner, it is possible to identify the operation state in a more detailed manner, and it is possible to more appropriately control the zoom according to the user operation state. This technology can be applied to a digital camera or a multi-functional portable telephone receiver.
