A filter screen (100) to be used in conjunction with a shale shaker in removing solid matter from drilling fluids includes a filter plate (102) having a plurality of perforations (108), a plurality of hold-down apertures (130), and a pair of end caps (132a, 132b) attached to the filter plate (102), wherein each end cap (132a, 132b) is configured to isolate the hold down apertures (130) from the plurality of perforations (108).
